I would like, as a round off activity for this year, to listen to your opinions on:
> what you think about using literature in the classroom (has your view changed? positively? why/why not?)
> what you think of working with a blog as a back up to the activities developed in the classroom
I sincerely hope you have enjoyed this subject.
See you
Literature is a powerful vehicle for helping children understand their homes, communities and the world. Even before young children can read, family members, childcare providers and teachers read them stories about people in far away places, sometimes from the distant past and sometimes about people whose lives are similar to their own. The impressions and messages contained in these stories can last a lifetime.
ReplyDeleteImagine the benefits you can get from using literature with children, who are begining to learn a second language, they actually will remember the contents you teach though literature in a special way. This method is great to make them remember things easily. Limericks are a great example of this.
I really enjoyed the subject, but I regret not having so much time to prepare the activities, to show them to the rest of students of English, to have the opportunity to use them with some children, and so on.
Well, it's a question of organization, sometimes.

ReplyDelete> My opinion about using literature in the classroom has changed a lot from the beginning of the year until now. At first I believed it was going to be an almost impossible task to accomplish, but after studying which the advantages were and all the wonderful things that can be achieved through reading stories, I know believe that it is one of the greatest ways of learning. Children enjoy a lot while doing it, and learn in a natural and real context.
ReplyDelete> As regards using the blog as a back up to the activities developed in the classroom, I think that it is a good medium and that we can learn a lot through using blogs.
I enojoyed the subject a lot and I learnt a lot from it!!
Using literature in language classrooms
ReplyDeleteAt the beginning of the year, I believed that poems, short stories, and plays had little or no place in classrooms oriented to developing communicative competence in English, or that literary texts were only for advanced learners. In fact, I considered literature boring and difficult.
Throughout the course, my perspective changed completely. I realized that effective literature-based lessons engage learners and capture their interest. They make pupils excited about understanding how language is used to express communicative purposes. They make students active participants in tasks that lead them to discover language features and arrive at their own interpretations of a text. They make learners want to read further literary texts on their own.
I really enjoyed the subject. It has broadened my imagination and encouraged me to apply all these creative techniques in language classrooms.
With regard to working with a blog as a back up to the activities developed in the classroom, I think it is a good opportunity for teachers to introduce technology to teaching a language.
In my opinion, at the beginnig of the year, I thought that it´d be impossible to use literature in language classroomos. But when I started reading, I realized that teachers can use literature for different purposes such as reading aloud and dramatizing a poem, teaching pronunciation, and many other activities.
ReplyDeleteMoreover, literature is authentic material that makes students travel to foreign countries and fantastic worlds. This keeps our students motivated and promotes favorable attitude toward learning. For instance, poems, novels, and short stories can bring powerful emotional responses to the classroom. Furthermore, students can relate their own real lives to the stories they read.
I enjoyed the subject. It has encouraged me to use literature and apply all the techniques and tasks for meaningful learning.
As regards using the blog, I think that it is a good idea for teachers and students in order to learn how to use technology within the classroom.
